For the third consecutive year, 7-Eleven Hawaii is excited to participate in Localicious Hawaii. This campaign that runs the entire month of March was launched by the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation. The purpose of Localicious Hawaii is to highlight restaurants that support Hawaii’s agricultural industry.
Through the campaign, select restaurants come together to raise funds for agricultural education in our state’s public schools. Each restaurant features a menu item that has at least one locally sourced ingredient. When a customer chooses this “Localicious” dish, the restaurant makes a contribution to Hawaii Agricultural Foundation’s education programs.
This year, 7-Eleven Hawaii’s Localicious dish is the Shrimp & Vegetable Sinigang Noodle Soup. This dish was created by culinary student, Kainoa Reloza who won the 2019 Culinary Contest, put together by 7-Eleven Hawaii and the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. Kainoa’s inspiration for his winning dish was his grandparents whom he frequently asked to make Sinigang during his childhood. He wanted to share that feeling of comfort through his recipe.
The Shrimp & Vegetable Sinigang Noodle Soup has rice noodles that sit in a savory pork broth with a hint of tamarind to add brightness to the dish. It is then topped off with shrimp, okra, bok choy and onions. The two local ingredients are the plump tomatoes from Sugarland Growers in Kunia and the crunchy long beans are from Kahuku Farms. Like other 7-Eleven Hawaii noodle options, there is no need to add water. The broth comes in gelatin form. When it is reheated, the gelatin turns into soup!
Throughout the month of March, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this dish will go to the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation. You can find it at all 66 7-Eleven Hawaii neighborhood stores. Support local!
