To further emphasize our support of the Choose Healthy Now (CHN) program, we asked the First Lady Dawn Ige if she would be able to develop a sandwich recipe that is in line with the Department of Health’s (DOH) CHN nutrition criteria. She loved the idea; and immediately began to test out a few concepts.
It did not take much time for the First Lady to submit her recipe for DOH review. The DOH had to make a few tweaks to ensure that the sandwich can be identified as a CHN approved healthy option. The final recipe was submitted to Debbie Lee Soon, Fresh Food Category Manager.

The sandwich is made of diced grilled chicken breast, mixed with a yogurt and herb dressing, complemented with cilantro flakes, coriander, cumin garlic powder, pepper and lime.
Debbie worked with Warabeya USA to recreate the First Lady’s sandwich. It took a couple more changes until the sandwich was ready to be produced for sampling at the September 8th press conference. The sandwich is made of diced grilled chicken breast mixed with a yogurt and herb dressing complemented with cilantro flakes, coriander, cumin, garlic powder, pepper and lime. Feta cheese is added, creating a rich and robust chicken salad. The sandwich will be served on sprouted grain bread by La Tour Bakehouse, topped with fresh tomato and green leaf lettuce.
Lucky press conference attendees had an exclusive preview of the First Lady’s Chicken Cilantro Salad Sandwich. The First Lady sampled her sandwich and gave it a thumbs up. Customers who just happened to stop by at the right time also approved of the sandwich. It was so delicious that they asked when they can purchase it. Well, this week, we are proud to announce that the sandwich will be rolling out into stores and into your bellies!
