All You Need are Friends and Some Creative Juices
Busy lives and work obligations often push our relationships to the bottom of our to-do list. Despite having those thoughts of texting so-and-so or meaning to grab a cup of coffee, the things we intend to do for ourselves or those closest to us always seem to go unfinished. Sometimes, it’s important to practice more intentional living and make an effort to set up a casual get-together for an opportunity to relax and reconnect. One great idea for such a night is to gather your gang and set out to make some vision boards. The supplies are simple: scissors, glue, boards, all those magazines you have lying around your house- but the results can be life changing! Add some yummy snacks and a few bottles of wine or beer, and you’ve got yourself a chill night to unwind—not only will you be reconnecting with friends, but by sharing your goals, you can support each other and help each other follow them through.
Set Your Goals Easy
We all have ideas about something we’d like to change in our lives, or a goal we’d like to achieve, but after a few days, old habits can creep back into the picture, making permanent change a hard thing to manifest. Vision boards are exactly what they sound like- visual reminders that help us clarify our goals, concentrate our attentions on those goals, and maintain focus until the goals are achieved. Most importantly, displaying the images where you will see them everyday also plays into the law of attraction—the theory that the pure energy we put out into the universe will attract whatever we are seeking. Goals can range from something small like attending that Saturday fitness class with a friend to something bigger like applying to graduate school or leaving your current job to pursue your dreams.
By simply putting out the request to the universe and letting the powers that be, know you are open for change, you are making way in your life for the endless possibilities of what can be.
How to Begin
Start by setting the mood; turn on some good music or light some candles to get the good energy flowing. Everyone has their own process and interpretations when making their unique vision board—some might flip through magazines and cut out whatever they are attracted to, while others seek out specific images of the changes they want to see in their life, such as their dream car or a new hairstyle they want to try. Some even use symbolism by finding photos that represent the changes they want to manifest—a photo of a dress could symbolize what they’ll wear at their graduation ceremony, or glasses of champagne clinking could symbolize the toast they will make with the significant other they will meet. By simply putting out the request to the universe and letting the powers that be, know you are open for change, you are making way in your life for the endless possibilities of what can be.
Some other tips to building a great vision board would be to add quotes or sayings that you want to guide your intentions, or even printing out things from the internet if the perfect photo isn’t found in a magazine. Once all the boards are finished and the group photo is taken, it’s a great idea to plan a follow-up event—maybe a few months down the road—to give everyone a chance to reflect on how they’re coming along with their goals and also an opportunity for the group to reconnect.
Whatever your goals are in life, whether it’s making healthier food choices or scoring that sweet office with a view, creating a vision board is a great way to focus your intentions so you can achieve everything you set your mind to!
